If your boiler will not fire, look at the pressure gauge before anything else. Low system pressure makes a boiler lock out on its own safety controls, and it is the single most common reason for a no-heat call.
Cold, the gauge typically wants to read around one bar, or roughly twelve to fifteen psi. If it is sitting near zero, the system has lost water somewhere, and that is worth finding rather than simply topping up repeatedly.
A radiator that is warm at the bottom and cold at the top has air trapped in it. Bleeding it releases the air, and the system then needs repressurising afterwards.
A single room that never gets warm while the rest of the house is fine points at that zone, not the heat source. Usually a zone valve that is not opening, a thermostat that is not calling, or a radiator that has sludged up. All of those are much smaller jobs than replacing a boiler.

We then check for air in the loop, which is the usual explanation for radiators that are hot at the bottom and cold at the top, or a system that makes gurgling noises. Bleeding and repressurising the system properly resolves a meaningful share of no-heat and poor-heat calls on its own.
If the boiler fires but the heat is not reaching the rooms, the fault is in circulation rather than combustion. We check the circulator pump is running and moving water, test the zone valves are opening when called, and confirm the thermostats and controls are actually sending the signal. A single room that stays cold while the rest of the house is fine is nearly always a zone valve or a blocked radiator, and that is a far smaller job than anything involving the boiler itself.
On the boiler itself we check ignition, the gas supply and pressure, the heat exchanger for signs of leakage or scaling, and the venting for obstruction or deterioration. Venting matters a great deal and gets overlooked, since a partially blocked or corroded flue is a genuine safety issue rather than an efficiency one. Anything we find that affects safety gets explained to you plainly and, where necessary, the system is shut down until it is put right.
Most faults are repaired at this point from the findings above.
